The $240,000 RENEW grant will fund the two-year planning process for the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan. This grant was made possible by a dynamic partnership between three major entities: Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC), South Bay Bicycle Coalition (SBBC) and the City of Redondo Beach.
In 2009, the SBBC Board came together to author the grant. SBBC’s vision was bolstered by the advocacy experience of LACBC and municipal strength of the City of Redondo Beach. Thus, a successful partnership was formed wherein SBBC provides the community familiarity and dynamic public outreach in the South Bay, LACBC provides administrative grant management and the City of Redondo Beach offers technical expertise and even office space for our South Bay Initiative Director.
The grant is funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health through their RENEW (Renew Environments for Nutrition, Exercise and Wellness) which is made possible by funding through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention with monies from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
