SBBC Volunteers Run Bike Corral At Redondo Beach Safety Fair – From Redondo Beach Patch.com

I attended the Redondo Beach Police Department's 2010 Annual Public Safety Fair at Civic Center yesterday afternoon as a volunteer with the South Bay Bicycle Coalition's bike corral service.  I was there to help provide a safe and easy place to park your bike and to do some outreach on behalf of the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan, for which Redondo Beach is the lead city. As always, I'm focused on cutting our pollution and greenhouse gas emissions here in the South Bay by encouraging people to take advantage of our typically great bike riding weather and use their bicycles instead of their cars whenever they can. On Oct 2, 2010 56 riders from the Beach Cities Cycling Club and the South Bay Bicycle Coalition rode their bikes from Redondo Beach to Long Beach to meet with Charlie Gandy, the City of Long Beach Mobility Coordinator. Of particular interest was the green painted sharrow lane down 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. Charlie talked about that lane to our group after we rode it for ourselves. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLdIkR_-vR4...

Bikers Praise Free Valet as Fiesta Ends – From Hermosa Beach Patch.com

South Bay bicyclists jammed the free bike valet parking lot for the third consecutive day as Labor Day crowds soaked up the sunshine, music, food and beach culture at Fiesta Hermosa on Monday. It was all smiles, good times and another perfect day on the sand for me and my fellow volunteers from the South Bay Bicycle Coalition and the Beach Cities Cycling Club as we watched over a sea of bicycles, while we also watched dolphins play in the waters just south of the Hermosa Pier. Once again the gang from Hermosa Cyclery put in a full day overseeing the operation and making sure hundreds of bicyclists got their tires properly inflated before they rode off.
