The South Bay Bicycle Coalition was founded in late 2009 by a handful of bike-loving South Bay bicycle advocates. We were determined to bring the wide range of local riders together to help create a safer, more accessible, more easily interconnected region in which to ride. Support for the SBBC grew astoundingly quickly as hundreds friended our Facebook page in just a matter of months and joined our mission to unite our South Bay cities with an integrated master bike plan.
Our members include all skill and fitness levels of bicycle riders and all manner of bicycles. We welcome the occasional and casual rider, the serious fitness rider, the recreational rider, beach cruisers, road racers, mountain bikers, and anyone who relies on their bikes for primary transportation.
The South Bay Bicycle Coalition strives to improve the region’s transportation culture by prioritizing a comprehensive bikeway network for increased cycling access; safe and secure streets for our children to ride their bikes to school; a well-planned infrastructure that supports bicycle commuting; and educated users of the road that share a mutual respect for one another.
WHAT WE DO
The South Bay Bicycle Coalition is the leading bike advocacy group in the South Bay. We focus upon campaigns and projects centered around improving bike infrastructure, bike policy and increasing cycling safety and convenience. Our current campaigns include bike safety education, providing bike valets and the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan.
The South Bay Bicycle Master Plan is in it’s nascent stage. Funded through a grant from the County Department of Public Health’s RENEW program (made possible by funding from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention), our planning phase will culminate in the summer of 2012 with a regional bikeway network plan and associated policies spanning seven cities in the South Bay: El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance.
And oh yeah, we like riding our bikes every chance we get and having the most fun possible!
We send periodic emails, do not spam, and remove anyone who requests.
