Aviation Blvd Bike Path Community Meeting – Be There!

Now that the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan has passed our next steps are implementation of the many elements and new miles of bikeways the plan calls for.  One of those new bikeways is slated for Aviation Blvd and its implementation is being spearheaded by our friends and partners at Vitality City. The first public meeting on that plan is coming up soon and you're invited to be there and offer your opinion and comments. So save the date of Wednesday, Feb 8 for the big Aviation Boulevard Community Input Meeting hosted by Vitality City. It's all about the design and implementation of the Aviation Blvd. Bike Path. A to Z Cycling Course Coming in April for Beginners & Novices!

The South Bay Bicycle Coalition is excited to announce that our great friends at the Beach Cities Cycling Club have just announced a terrific new 10 week cycling course for beginners and novices that is a must for new and less experienced riders.  There's never been a course like this offered in the South Bay before for riders who want to improve their cycling skills and techniques or who simply want to improve their health and make new friends.  It's free to all members of the Beach Cities Cycling Club, and if you're not already a member you should be.  The course starts on Sunday April 15 and will meet every Sunday from 9am to 11am.  It's co-sponsored by the BCHD Center for Health and Fitness and fits in perfectly with their Vitality City program and our own SBBC Master Bike Plan goals. Congratulations to SBBC Board Member, Steve Collins, Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year

Steve Collins, long-term partner in Hermosa Cyclery and a driving force behind the Fiesta Hermosa bike valets since 2010 was deservedly honored as Man of the Year by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce on January 12. In addition to his his extraordinary efforts providing support and free services at the twice yearly Hermosa bike valets, Collins also donates dozens of bicycles annually to the Hermosa Beach toy drive among his many community efforts. His organizing work on behalf of cyclists in the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day parade resulted in a huge turnout helping to greatly increase our visibility in town. Steve's parents, his wife, Debbie, and his sister were all on hand at Union Cattle to see him receive his award as were two of his Hermosa Cyclery partners and fellow SBBC Board Member, Joe Galliani. Steve's acceptance remarks were typically humble and gracious as he acknowledged the many Hermosans he credited as his inspiration, including members of the City Council...
